Entryway Organizing Solutions
If you know me at all, you know that I’ve usually got a project that I’m working on at our house. Otherwise, I’m planning my next one in my head. This entryway project is one of my super quick projects that I thought I would share. It’s an example of how you can take a small unused space and make it a little bit better by using some things that you already own or a few inexpensive purchased items.
TIMEFRAME: The project took maybe an hour at most including taking the photos.
DETAILS: Our front door doesn’t get much use because it’s just much easier to access our house through the garage door. That’s also probably why I’ve never done much to decorate our front entry way. There’s been this area behind the front door that was just a blank space for years. You’re probably saying no big deal right?
Okay, well it looked like this for about six years until a snow day last week, when I came across an IKEA coat rack in our basement that needed a home.
Background: I sometimes buy things for the house without actually knowing where they’re going to end up…I call it a special gift of mine…my husband calls it something else. I bought this coat rack at IKEA a few years ago and honestly forgot all about it. So, while I was looking for snow boots in the basement I found it and “thought where can I put this puppy?”
It occurred to me that maybe the coat rack could go in the entryway behind the front door and create some organization (you can never have enough). Once we (my husband) got the coat rack assembled and hung up, it definitely needed something else. So I wandered through the house, (another one of my decorating tricks – search the house for something to steal). I found an old bench to put beneath the coat rack – Entryway with Bench complete!
I really like how the project turned out. Shoes and coats are right near the stairs so if you’re on your way up you can carry them with you (one can wish).
If you like the look of this little space. Here are a few similar coat racks and bench options I found for you.

Wall Mount Coat Racks
Rustic Version – This is a great option if you’re looking to create a small entryway or mudroom in your space. It comes in 3 different options 3, 4 or 8 hooks and is very reasonably priced with both the 3 & 4 hook option priced under $20.
White Version – Here’s an all white version with 5 hooks also under $20 that is available in a 2 pack if you have a larger space or are using them in multiple spaces.
Entryway Bench
The bench we used was a hand me down that we’ve had for 20 years.
Farmhouse Bench – I really like the look of this modern farmhouse bench. It’s neutral enough to work in most spaces and allows you to mix and match your accessories depending on the season or your mood.
I love updating small spaces in my house that take just a few minutes and just a few items. Sometimes these small changes can make such a big impact. Are there any corners around your home that need an update?
